Many universities around the world are voluntarily assessing and evaluating their undergraduate engineering degree programs, employing the philosophy and practice of continuous quality im- provement and outcomes/competency based learning. Equally, many universities are submitting their programs either mandatorily or in a voluntary basis to accreditation processes to ensure students, hiring companies and the general public the assurance that a program (or institution) meets established quality standards. For engineering programs to be competitive and to better serve stakeholders, accreditation and recognition of degrees to ease mobility is critical and an almost mandatory issue. This workshop session provides an introduction to ABET accreditation: an organizational overview, criteria, the accreditation process, and continuous improvement. It also addresses questions like: Why seek ABET accreditation? How can I start preparing my engineering college or program for an ABET accreditation visit)? Who needs to be involved? How early should I start planning?
